Back from an amazing 3-day ladies bootcamp retreat in the Lake District, with 12 ladies who all had the perfect boost to their fitness and weight loss whilst having an amazing healthy weekend too

The bootcamp venue was the YHA Ambleside, with a stunning location on the lake Windermere. It’s a great venue with shared or private rooms, great lounge, and a fully self-catering kitchen where the ladies could store and prepare their meals (it was a self-catering bootcamp retreat)

The weekend started at 1pm on the Friday with a welcome talk, goals workshop, fitness tests, and a few sessions of circuits, core and stretch which took place in the local park. Following this we all headed back to the venue to relax, sunbathe, and have a lake swim to cool off – it was so hot it was needed! The bootcamp is based on a number of elements including fitness, healthy eating, learning, but also a great chance to have a break away from everyday life. Its perfect for groups of friends or those coming solo too.

The next day started with a variety of fitness sessions including elements of cardio which included combat, resistance which included Pump, and core which included Pilates ,and this took us up until lunchtime. After everybody had refuelled for the day we head out on our walk up to Loughrigg Fell – an amazing walk with breath-taking view that lasted a few hours and we walked about 9 miles in total. The walk was suitable for everyone and was a perfect afternoon (Who says boot camp just involves being shouted at). Once finished we headed back to the venue for a swim and to get ready for a group evening meal into town, perfect way to end the day. Most of the ladies did about 40k steps today too which was a fantastic achievement – so the few gin and tonics in the evening were certainly earned

Day 3 of bootcamp and everyone is still feeling great. The day starts off with box fit followed by yoga, before we go on another walk, this time to the Stock Ghyll waterfall. Great end to the bootcamp with all the ladies ready to get home and continue their healthy journeys (half of them are coming our Portugal Bootcamp in September so they use these bootcamps as a regular event to keep them on track)

It was a fantastic bootcamp experience for all of the ladies involved and one we wont forget, Well done girls you Smashed It!

In a typical day you can expect to have a wake up workout followed by breakfast, a healthy living workshop, and a programme of fitness sessions up until lunch time. The afternoon is then free time giving everyone the chance to relax, soak up the rays, or head out to explore the area. Come 5pm and its cooled down so it is the perfect chance to finish the day with a few more sessions. Evening is a chance for everyone for relax and enjoy the night. On the self-catering bootcamp we arrange optional BBQ nights, evenings out to local Portuguese restaurants and the beautiful Old Town, and on the All Inclusive bootcamp we have our chef who provides all the meals and we eat together at the venue.

A Boot camp holiday in Portugal with Motivate Bootcamp is a fantastic week away that can help you to improve fitness, lose weight, and give your body the kick-start it needs

Our bootcamp holiday is ladies only and is located in the beautiful Albufeira within the Algarve region. It varies from a lot of our competitors in that it is a holiday too and you get lots of time to enjoy the surroundings and relax, we are also a lot more affordable. We also include optional trips to local towns like Vilamoura and activities such as paddle boarding, surfing, jeep safari, and boat trips

We have a few options available including all inclusive, self-catering, and bed & breakfast and they all offer an unforgettable experience. Over 70% of our clients come year after year

Our all-inclusive and bed and breakfast bootcamp retreat are based at a fabulous villa on the outskirts of Albufeira (approx. 10 minutes’ drive to the old town and marina or 35 minutes’ walk). This is a 7-bedroom villa with a pool and is recently fully refurbished, and is one of our smaller group retreats, perfect for those looking for a bootcamp holiday with a more personal touch (10 people max).

Our self-catering bootcamp retreat is based in an apartment complex (we privately hire out a full apartment complex which includes 13 apartments, swimming pool, tennis courts, and landscaped gardens). There are a few options depending if you wanted to share or you can upgrade and have an apartment to yourself, perfect for groups friends.

With the All Inclusive option we takeover our own chef who makes all the meals/snacks fresh daily. On the B/B option we provide breakfast. With the bed and breakfast and self-catering retreats it gives you flexibility on food, and there are large supermarkets nearby where you can do a food shop, we help you with choices. We also arrange evening meals out to local restaurants and we also host BBQ nights which make it a great social event and gives a holiday feel to it

Our days vary and consist of fitness sessions and workshops in the morning, followed by the afternoon off to relax, head out and explore, or to have massages (our masseuse comes in throughout the week), then early evening we finish with a few more sessions including Yoga/Pilates to finish. Then it’s time to relax and eat onsite on head out in the evening. This is what makes it more than a bootcamp, it’s a holiday too.

How to be healthy and stay fit over Christmas

Christmas is the time of the year when everybody struggles to be healthy and continue their fitness journey, and 11 months of hard work can be wiped out in a few weeks! Don’t let this happen to you!

Follow the below tips to keep your body ticking over throughout the Christmas period, ready for the New Year

  • Don’t sit down everyday – try and do something active or the weight is soon going to start adding up – people can gain over a stone over the Christmas period, and it’s a lot harder to lose than it was to gain
  • Don’t drink too much – remember alcohol is empty calories. If you do drink, then remember to swap to the low calorie options if possible such as gin and slim line tonic. Mulled wine is nice but is pretty high in calories – click here
  • Don’t give up the gym – it’s the time of the year when you need to work out the most! Try to train regularly – if you struggle to make classes or gym then do 15 minute workouts a day at home, use hit/circuit sessions or YouTube videos to give you a few workout ideas
  • Don’t stress – Christmas is about having fun and enjoyment
  • Drink lots of water on a night out to keep you rehydrated and hopefully avoid the hangover in the morning. If you do have a hangover then get up and get out for some fresh air, the alcohol isn’t going to burn off and leave your system if you are in bed all day. Click here for more info
  • Get a workout buddy if you are struggling for motivation or make a pact with your class buddies that you will still keep going throughout Christmas. Many local fitness trainers and gyms also run Christmas bootcamps and challenges – sign up to one of these
  • Book an event for early 2018 to give you a goal to maintain – perfect for motivation and to keep you working out over the Christmas period. 5k runs are perfect for this – get others involved too. Even better – book a bootcamp weekend!
  • If you have an event which you know involves food and alcohol, plan a workout for that day and make it a pretty tough one – including HIT and weights! Not only will this make you feel great, but it will also increase your metabolism so you will burn the food/drink off more efficiently, and you won’t feel guilty because you have pre burned those additional calories – then enjoy your night
  • If you work in an office environment – avoid continuous snacking on Christmas junk food such as chocolates, cakes and biscuits. Instead limit yourself, or take in healthier options. The result – you won’t feel lethargic and tired all day at work, plus you won’t gain weight!
  • Get the family involved in fitness – active games such as dance, sports etc on the Xbox are a perfect way to keep the family entertained and active
  • Christmas Dinner – this is when everybody over indulges. Enjoy it but a few tips include don’t go back for seconds, eat at the dinner table so your body recognises you are eating (no tv), and eat slowly – it’s not a rush
